KARIN YAMAGIWA MADAN & SUZANNE KAUFMAN, AUG-OCT 2006

Suzanne Kaufman was born and raised in the Midwest growing up on healthy doses of Saturday morning cartoons and macaroni and cheese. Her paintings on wood have developed into a series of highly stylized characters and anthropomorphized animals that represent both the sweet and dark misfit in all of us.

Karin Yamagiwa Madan has been drawing and crafting as long as she or anyone who knows her can remember. Working with a variety of media that includes everything from markers, paint, clay and fabric to shrinky dinks, Karin creates memorable and endearing artwork exploring themes of innocence, loss, love, kinship and alienation. Her some-of-a-kind artworks of ‘Stumpytown’ are based on memories of childhood and traits of friends and loved ones. Karin hates getting out of bed and likes the color purple.
